About
Pass Plus
Pass
Plus is a comprehensive training scheme for new drivers. It
is much more than just a few extra car driving lessons. The
course is especially designed by the Driving Standards Agency
(DSA), with the help of insurance companies and the driving
instruction industry.
Gain Driving Experience Safely
Young
drivers will be taught how to deal with a range of road and
traffic situations, many of which they won't have faced before.
Build on Existing Skills and Knowledge
It
takes years to become a skilled driver. Pass plus helps get
you there by speeding up the learning process under their
expert tuition.
Reduce Risk of Being in an Accident
The
pass plus course will help boost your awareness of all kinds
of road hazards and help you learn how to anticipate and plan
for and deal with them safely.
Save Money on Car Insurance
You
will have to pay a course fee. The Pass Plus cost will vary
depending on where you live and the instructor or driving
school that you choose. The course will take a minimum of
six hours, all of which need to be taken after passing your
driving test. If further sessions are needed for you to successfully
complete the course, this may add to the cost. When you have
completed the course, you are advised to check discounts offered
by insurance companies taking part in this scheme. The amount
you save will depend on the insurance company you choose,
you may even save more than you paid for the course!
A Boost to Your Confidence
if
you are feeling nervous when you are driving on your own,
the Pass Plus training can help you become more confident.
Give Your Loved Ones Peace of Mind
The
Pass Plus course consists of six modules which cover driving
in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual
carriageways and on motorways. You can take this course at
any time within the first 12 months of passing your driving
test.
There
is no test at the end of the course and your driving will
be assessed and you must successfully complete all the course
modules to an achieved or exceeded standard:
achieved
– successfully reached the standard required
for each of the competencies
exceeded
– exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies
In
unusual circumstances if a module can't be done on the road
it will be covered in a theory session. The highest level
you can reach on this course is 'achieved' as you've not been
able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills. Do not
worry if you haven’t got a car at the moment, you may
be able to defer the discount for up to two years. But check
this with your insurance company. If you passed your driving
test more than a year ago you should check that you will be
eligible for the discounts on offer from your insurance company
before you take the pass plus course.
